FAT GRAFTING
Microlipoinjection and Sculpting
Fat makes an excellent soft tissue, filling material. It is collected from a donor site, such as the abdomen, buttocks or thighs, by using a small needle attached to a syringe. After removg excess fluids, the fat is injected, in multiple thin strands, into the desired area. Slight “over-filling” is necessary, since some fat will be absorbed. Since it is taken from your own body, there is no possibility of an allergic reaction.
IDEAL FAT GRAFTING CANDIDATES
You may be a good candidate for fat grafting if you:
-Desire full lips
-Desire softening your smile lines
-Have depressions in the lower eyelid/cheek area
-Desire subtle fullness in the cheeks, chin or over the brow
-Have significant depressions after liposuction or an injury
YOUR PERSONAL CONSULTATION
You should arrive at the consultation prepared to provide complete information about:
-Previous surgeries
-Past and present medical conditions
-Treatments you have received
-Medications that you are taking, including nutritional supplements, and herbal remedies
RECOVERY
For three to five days after fat grafting, there is significant swelling (particularly around the lips), and there may be some bruising. There should be minimal discomfort and elevating the head above the heart, and applying ice to the fat graft area, will minimize these effects and can significantly speed up the healing process.
Sutures, if placed, will be removed in less than a week, and most patients return to work within five to seven days. Strenuous activity should be avoided for ten days.
FAT GRAFTING RESULTS
After several weeks of firmness, with some irregularities, a smoother, fuller appearance will become noticeable. Although techniques are continually improving, the longevity of fat grafting is not always predictable. Approximately thirty percent of the injected fat lasts for six, or more, months. So, it may be necessary to have one or two additional sessions to achieve your desired result.
